W formie parku istnieje od 1892 roku, kiedy to architekt krajobrazu Hugo Richter i botanik Ferdinand Cohn zmienili ziemię przekazaną miastu w 1877 roku w jeden z piękniejszych parków krajobrazowych. W 1995 r. park wpisany został na listę zabytków, rośnie w nim 109 gatunków drzew w tym wyjątkowe okazy.
