Największa amatorska impreza świata odbywająca się corocznie w maju. Wieloetapowy wyścig przebiegał zmienną trasą przez Polskę, Czechosłowację i NRD (od 1952 r.). Od 1958 r. trasa zawodów przebiegała przez Wrocław, Katowice i Łódź. Najwięcej zwycięstw w klasyfikacji generalnej (indywidualnej) za lata 1948-2006 wygrali: Steffen Wesemann (5-krotnie), Ryszard Szurkowski (4-krotnie), Uwe Ampler (4-krotnie).
